Comments Off Shampoo Matters
How often do you shampoo? I do it every day although if my lola had her way, I’d be shampooing only three times a week. I used to think my granny was off her rocker, asking me to skip shampoo like that. Turns out, lola was years ahead of beauty trends!
Today, I read on mnsbc.com that dermatologists and hair stylists now think going a few days without shampoo (or even swearing off shampoo FOREVER) could actually be good for our hair. The practice has been given the monicker “no poo” and is popular among two groups: the so-called underground beauty trendistas and environmentalists who want products with fewer chemicals and would rather not use plastic.
What’s wrong with shampoo exactly?
Well, salon owners and dermatologists say when you over-shampoo, your hair has to over-secrete oil in order to thrive. Shampoo isn’t good for the hair because it strips it of necessary natural oils. When it does, it forces the scalp to produce more oil and making it impossible for you to skip shampoo even for a day without looking like a giant greaseball. Mind you, over-shampooing here is defined as using your shampoo every day.
I don’t know about you but beauty trend or not, I think I’d rather not part ways with my shampoo just yet.
