Hello, Ms. Chiaroscuro

You know how the referee always seems to take forever to finish saying Manny “The Pacman” Pacquiao? And pronounces Pacquiao like it’s spelled yaaaawhhh?

Well, I think not too long in the future now, people will have to start appending something to my name, too – like Chin, the Chiaroscuro Nutritionist or Chin, the Chiaroscuro Parent, or Chin, the Chiaroscuro (insert noun here).

No, no, don’t take that too literally. The problem isn’t that I’m fair-skinned somewhere and dark someplace else (well, okay, I am but let’s not go there). The problem is that I enjoy both the black and white of everything.

For instance, I think Alex should sleep early, so she can get her eight hours in… and more. But I also think there is something almost magical about being allowed to stay up past one’s bedtime. So, I let her, especially if it’s to watch a movie or chat away with me.

Here’s another example: I think that anything organically produced is awesome. But, so are ice cream, twister fries, and Pringles. Things that are packed with vitamins and minerals are awesome, too. So is Coke. And McNuggets. And, beef steak, which I eat a lot of, by the way. I’ve been pining away so much for my Papa’s beef steak the husband figured he’d save me from my broken heart by taking out bistek from The Outpost four days a week, at least.

I’m sure I’ll be needing a colon cleanse sometime soon to clear out all the gunk I’ve been eating; but for now, let me enjoy both the black and the white of parenthood and nutrition, among other things. After all, to quote from Michael Jackson, “It won’t matter if you’re black or white.” Heh! :)
