Charlie Turns One

We should have Murphy-proofed our plan, that’s what we should have done. After all, Cebu is not one cab ride away, after all. But us being what we are — and Murphy’s law governing our life the way it does — we found out the day of the party that we had forgotten many things, one of them the camera’s charger.

But, that’s not the only thing that went the way of Murphy’s law this week. We forgot to tell DaddyLo (my DIL) we needed his projector and the projector headlights. We forgot to syncrhonize the time of the party with MommyLa (my MIL) who will be throwing a party later that night. And, on the day of Charlie’s party, we had to change venues four times! By the time the party started, it rained even before the girls could move the food and the party props to the back of the house! We had to herd the guests to the porch, where we finally held the party minus the balloons, tarp, and pretty little touches.

Still, it was a fun, fun party which started at 4pm, and didn’t end til 8pm or so, when the last of the adult guests straggled home. At the end of it, though, I had to wonder if Charlie even understood it was her day and all. She didn’t laugh, cry, or raise an eyebrow. And, the whole time the kids played, she sat on her yaya’s lap, eating a chicken drumstick! This little girl is one tough customer!

Happy Birthday, Charlie! Here’s hoping your parents’ next effort impresses you a little bit more. Hahaha!

E and My Barbie Necklace

I met Enzo the same day I saw a Persian cat. Kara and I never got to throw a baby shower for Enzo because E had a difficult pregnancy and had to spend most of it resting. But we were there to welcome him the day E brought him home from the hospital.

Enzo is incredibly cute; the Persian cat is unbelievably expensive. I know it’s weird to remember the cat along with the baby, but I found it shocking a cat could cost so much. None of lola’s cats back home cost a thing, and she had way too many of them. I’m sure if E were any less outgoing, she just may turn into that little old lazy who lives in a quaint little house with her Persian cats and spends her day knitting. But because E is E, she most likely will spend her time Facebooking or making fasyon necklaces like the one she gave me on my birthday instead.

I’m sure you’ll never make your way here, E, but just in case you do, thanks for the necklace.

This, folks, was taken during Barbie’s 50th at Philippine Fashion week.

That necklace the model is wearing was designed and made by E. It’s mine to wear now. Thank you, E, for this present.

Lemonade, Anyone?

We’re back in the bustling metropolis and hating the flooding. Make no mistake; we love the rain but rain and flooding are two completely different things and “ne’er the twain shall they meet”.

On to happier news, the lovely Frances gave me an award – the Lemonade award. Of course, I’m star-struck (and I almost never am) because this woman is my only link to the world of Anna Wintour and the like; and she makes publishing sound like a dreamboat instead of the cutthroat industry many will have you believe it is.

This is the Lemonade Award.

I pass it on to anyone who happens to drop by this tiny space in the web. The award is for blogs that show great attitude or deep gratitude. Think of one thing you are grateful for (mine is patio furniture I can sit and read for hours in, so you see, it doesn’t have to be anything of substance whatsoever), then give yourself a pat in the back and this award.

Thank You, Yam.

How could I have forgotten to blog about the giveaways for Charlie’s baptism? Everyone raved about how lovely the pouch is. The bored and crafty Meream made it. It looks like a custom promotional product, what with recipe cards of dishes with sage as an ingredient, a cutesy pen, a handmade notepad. All of these are kept in a pouch sewn by Yam herself and she tells the story of how she did it all one crafternoon over at her blog. You all know where that is, of course :)
