Sometimes, I wonder why I have friends. I am not friendly, not friendly at all. I very rarely go out. I live without a cellphone. And, we almost never have people over, too. It doesn’t help that I’d rather be lost in a sea of books, kitchenware, or office furniture rather than in a sea of people. But yes, I’ll have you know that even though it confounds me how I came to have them, I have friends — and they’re a wonderful lot.

There’s Yam who can rule the world, or okay at least Cebu, with her sewing machine. She writes beautifully and sews even better. She lives with a spoiled cat named Ty (for Ty Pennington), she does yoga, and she reads and learns so fast I wouldn’t be surprised if she runs out of things to read and learn at some point.

There’s Iris, who is in love with her Mac, her mum and sister, and her husband — probably in that order, too. She’s a tinkerer who gives everything that doesn’t have a name yet Roman names, and she has an unhealthy addiction to — of all things – Macbooks and onions.

There’s Aileen, the lightchaser. She takes the most wonderful photos in the world. She’s all-around wonderful girl, too, because she doesn’t only live beautifully, she lives to inspire.

Then there’s Vet who’s probably more anti-social than I am, if such a thing is even possible. She has a house for a pet and she keeps feeding it and buying it things. She’d send it to college if she could, but hey, where would you enroll a house?

There’s Ley who travels with his cow Satchmo. Oh wait, that’s not right. Satchmo is better-traveled than Leylan. Satchmo has been to the U.S; not Leylan. Satchmo has been to Singapore; not Leylan. You get the drift. Considering Satchmo is the better traveled (and probably the more cultured) of the two, you’d think it’d be Satchmo, not Ley, who would do the blogging. I kid, I kid!

There’s Line who sleeps with half her books and thingamajiggies occupying her bedspace. I’m not sure why she does it. I’m not sure, either, how she manages to eat as much and as often as she does and not turn into a sofa. But believe you me, that girl looks like she hasn’t eaten anything in a long time!

There’s Ragen in the U.K who probably thinks I don’t know where to find her blog because I don’t leave comments. But just because I don’t make  a pipsqueak doesn’t mean I don’t know she has been taking lovely little walks in the most delightful side of town and taking photos of the prettiest things.

There’s Malou who is the most beautiful woman I know. That she’s smart, sweet, and caring on top of being breathtakingly lovely should make her scary. But she’s really the nicest girl, too, only you wouldn’t know that when you first meet her because you’d be too busy trying not to stare.

There’s also Kaith and Mimi who are both a mum of two like I am but whose lives are more exciting than mine. I don’t know how they have the energy for it but even with  full-time work, a household, and errant yayas to wrestle, they manage to squeeze shopping trips, dinner dates, and salon appointments into their day. Magicians!

There’s Tin who bikes around town and kicks tire swings for a living. She communes with the stars and the sea, and writes the most amazing things ever.

And then there’s Kara who I rarely see because she flits from one party to the next like the Star Patroller that she is. But when we do get together physically or via phonecall, we take on where we left off almost as if the past few weeks of not seeing each other didn’t happen.

I couldn’t name all of my friends, I’d run out of space. Know, though, that even I am amazed how I managed to make friends with these amazing people. I’m sure it wasn’t my (lack of) charm and social grace that has them bowled over so maybe it was my smile? Hahaha!
