Trailer Travels

May 4, 2009 - 5:37 am Comments Off

We’d like to think we have it all mapped out. Next week, we’re heading for Bohol again and this time around, we need to plan the trip carefully. We’ll stay in the province for almost a week, after all, and with the kids and the yaya traveling with us, we can’t pack light; we have to pack complete.

Mind you, I’m a light packer. I could stuff in one backpack or oversized shoulder bag all the things I’ll need for a week. But that counts for naught when you have two kids in the house who need a suitcase full of gadgets and supplies just to get through the week. Milk? Check. Vitamins? Check. Medicines? Check. Toiletries? Check. Sterilizer? Check. Milk bottles? Check. The list goes on… with seemingly no end in sight. I haven’t even come to the clothing part!

Sometimes, I wish the trailer culture would finally get here. Families can then hit the road whenever they need to, in comfort and without having to worry that they’re bringing too many things with them. After all, when you travel inside a trailer, all you need are rv parks and a freight ship. You won’t have to worry that you overpacked. You can even transplant your kitchen from house to trailer van if you want to!

An Open Letter to My Daughter’s Pillow

Dear Pillow,

When you first made your way into my bed, you were cute – a symbol of my daughter’s growing intelligence. She’d had you for some time, and she doesn’t want to let you go. When I said you should be thrown out, she cried. When that didn’t work, she reasoned. That worked like a charm. I cannot stand wishy-washyness; I admire clever reasoning.

For a while, I thought I could live with you. What’s one old, beat up pillow compared to my daughter’s happiness, right?

Wanna Score a Makeup Brush Set?

I’m not sure why I want to win this Mika Heart Shu Makeup Brush Set.

Truth be told, I don’t really know my way around makeup. Whenever I put goop on my face, it’s hit and miss. Sometimes, I hit the nail on the head and do my makeup just right. Other times, I get it oh so wrong and end up looking like someone’s punching bag.

Petcetera

The little girl has been asking the husband for a pet. At first, she wanted a puppy. Then, a cat. Then, some fish. The first two are out of the question because the kids and I react horribly to anything that is four-legged and furry. But we thought for a bit before saying no to fish because to be fair to Alex, the hub wants to raise koi himself.

What finally swung the vote against aquarium life? Well, we really have no idea how long we’d be staying in Cebu; we might move somewhere else by year-end, for example. And if we do move again (which I’m 95% sure we’ll do, at some point), the fish and their lovely but huge home will surely get in the way of moving. Then, there’s the question of space and pet supplies. Where will we put the aquarium? How much would we have to put aside for fish food and fish supplies?

At this point, there’s only one pet the family can afford to keep: Charlie.
