No More Houses Made of Cards

Times are tough but cocooned as I am at home, I never really realized how tough until I read Kaith and Chichi‘s blogs. Hearing about people losing their jobs on TV is one thing; finding out it’s happening to people your friends know is another. All these stories of economies falling by the roadside and people getting the boot strengthens my belief that I’m doing the right thing: I’m never trudging to an office again unless it’s one that I own.

So, in keeping with the New Year and all that, Wett and I drew up this year’s plans, only this one is good for the next five years and we’ve actually made headway over some of them.

Grill-love

I love grilled food. So does the hub. So does Alex, and everyone else in the house (except, perhaps, for that one maid we had who is on constant diet she refuses to eat anything that isn’t liquid and can’t be downed with one gulp). Not surprisingly, whenever we’re in the houseware section of a mall, we always look at patio sets. I’m amazed by the units we see, I really am. They’re electric! Do people actually grill their fish and meat now like that? We do it the old-fashioned uling-and-paypay way and can’t image doing it any different. What about you? How do you do your grilling?

Toy-phobia

I wonder how much other parents spend on toys. When we go out with the kids, we almost always end up bringing at least one home. It’s not on the pricey end (because we’re practical like that) but toys are toys; one toy is still one more addition to the clutter. I estimate that if we continue buying toys at a rate of 1 a day, we’d be over-run by toys in 2 years. And by over-run, I mean completely flooded with toys, from floor to ceiling. Scary thought.

Gameless

How important is gaming to you? Do you sit down and actually figure out how much to spend on it?

In the last year alone, we bought not just one video card but three. Finally, by year-end, I’d had enough of video cards and the constant need to upgrade our PCs just so the boys of the house can play the newest games around. I told the boys they can either take their games elsewhere or I’m having the Internet disconnected. The ultimatum worked. This year, I’m happy to announce our house is gaming-free.
